The first step is to gather all details and specifications from you to determine the scope of the project. In many cases, this is done via our quote form. We generally like to see some examples of other websites that either have the look and feel, or functionality you are looking for. If you have an RFP (Request for Proposal), that is all the better, but it is not always necessary.
We can set up a face-to-face meeting or a phone call to make sure we have all of the details straight. We may scribble on a napkin or two, answer all of your deepest, darkest website questions, and maybe even talk about what your mom would like to see in a website. At this point we can give you our recommendations as well as a ballpark on the budget.
If you are interested in moving forward with us, we will put together a formal proposal for you to review. The proposal also acts as a contract agreement and outlines our process, the project details and associated costs. We give you a hard quote based on the amount of hours we think the project will take as a whole. Unlike some design firms, we stick by our quotes no matter if we go over the hours allotted or not, unless something new or unforeseen comes up during the project that was not covered in the original agreement. We like you to know exactly what you're paying, and what you're paying for. No one likes surprises, especially surprise costs.
Once you've decided to move forward and have signed our agreement, we generally require a 50% deposit on the project total to get started. Work generally commences on our standard web design projects within 7-14 days depending on our work load, and how quickly you are able to provide us with all of the necessary materials in order to get started.
One of our professional web designers will create a design the graphics and create a mock-up for your new website keeping your industry, preferences and target audience in mind. Our standard agreements generally include up to three separate design concepts as needed, with multiple revisions within reason thereafter to finalize.
Once the design concept is selected and approved by you, we'll start on the development and production of the site. We code all of our web sites using standards-based XHTML/CSS that is highly cross-browser compatible, fast loading and search-engine-friendly. All of your proof-read text content and images will be added into each page of the website layout.
95% of all websites we build are dynamic in some way and require custom web programming to give them the functionality required. Upon your approval of the static XHTML/CSS site layout, we'll begin on the programming phase of the project. This phase includes converting the site from static HTML/CSS, to a dynamic, database-driven website. Using primarily PHP/MySQL, we custom program any special functionality into your site, which often includes building a custom Content Management System (CMS) so the website can be quickly and easily updated by you. We will also configure, implement and customize any third-party or open-source web software at this time (e-commerce shopping carts, blogs, etc.)
When all of the dynamic web programming as been completed, we will review and test the website with you. Any final touches will be completed at this time in preparation for launching the site. You will be trained to use any administration tools that your site may require.
When everything has been tested/approved, and you have been trained appropriately, we will request the final 50% payment from you, and launch the new website. If any additional work is required post-launch, we will handle your request on a per-project or hourly basis. Regular maintenance plans are also available based on your needs.
We are. Please fill out our free quote form.
"Jon and the team at Sleepless Media came to our rescue when a previous designer bailed out. They were completely open to our somewhat unusual parameters. The resulting design is beautiful and Jon was direct and honest -- I never had to read between the lines and he was always a pleasure to talk to."
